“All’s Fair in Love and Cupcakes” by Betsy St. Amant

Is is love or is it war? Hovering on the edge of more, these rather clueless best friends are in for a rocky ride as they attempt to make their dreams come true. Football coach, Lucas, has everything under control—except his growing attraction to a certain cupcake baker. Surrounded only by vanilla, chocolate or strawberry cupcakes and a family who only expects the status quo from her, Kat’s dream of creating elaborate delicacies seems stuck in the proverbial pipe. If only she could prove herself—preferably in another state. When Lucas’ game plan to win Kate goes awry and circumstances spiral out of control, will these two have what it takes to succeed at cupcakes and at love?

I love Betsy’s writing voice. While the thoughts are the characters’ own, her own brand of humour adds a flavour to the story you will not want to miss. Purely as a critiquer, I would say there was a little too much internal contemplation, but as a reader I think one can still appreciate it even when it slows the plot. I especially liked her male character. She does a great job at making him sound, think, and act like a man—all while nailing how far men in love are willing to go for the sake of the woman they esteem.

Thank you to Zondervan Fiction and NetGalley (https://www.netgalley.com/) for providing me with a copy of this book to read and review.
